New Pet Grooming Salon Poised to Hit a Home Run in Pittsburgh The Pittsburgh area has seen its
share of die-hard Pittsburgh Pirates fans: folks that have grown up watching greats like Clemente,
Mazeroski and Pops Stargell and folks who come from as far as Erie and Williamsport to cheer the Bucs on and hope for days of
baseball greatness to come. Still, most people don’t move 2,500
miles to follow the Pittsburgh Pirates. But then again, Otto and DeAnne Orive aren’t really like most
people. Otto and DeAnne hail from the Seattle, Washington area – about as far from Pittsburgh as you can get in the continental US. They spent their vacations traveling to Pittsburgh to watch Pirates games, and even took in spring training in Bradenton a couple of times. Finally, three years ago,
they shocked friends and family alike by packing up and moving east to see if they could grab onto two
important pieces of the American Dream: owning their own business and watching Pirates baseball all season
long. This month, the other half of that dream becomes a reality, as Otto and DeAnne open Grand Slam
Grooming in Scott Township. Both longtime dog lovers, opening their own pet grooming
salon was a natural next step for the Orives. A Certified Master
Groomer by the International Professional Groomers Association, DeAnne was previously with Merlyn Kennels,
and has extensive experience in pet grooming – she graduated top-in-class at Maser’s Academy of Fine
Grooming, specializing in hand scissoring techniques. The Orives are proud parents of Zena and Brenda, two female Boxers – Zena is a Canine Good
Citizen trained therapy dog and has performed in various canine agility competitions, and Brenda is an
adopted Pennsylvania native (the Orives added her to the family after moving
to their home in Mt. Lebanon.) The name of the store came along equally naturally: “We knew we had to get baseball in there somewhere,” says Otto. “The Pirates brought us to Pittsburgh, after all.” The Orives
offer all-inclusive grooming and bathing for all dog breeds. Grand Slam
Grooming doesn’t use tranquilizers, and every pet gets a rush-free personal groom guaranteed to leave your
pet happy and healthy. Pricing and appointments are available by
calling (412) 221- 5081. So stop by Grand Slam Grooming on Bower Hill Road and say hello to a couple of
unique Pittsburgh Pirates fans. You can bet Zena and Brenda will be
there – and this spring, you can bet the game will definitely be on, too.
